2016 AP School and Workshop on Gravitation and Cosmology

As one of activities under the Division of Astrophysics, Cosmology and Gravity (GAGC), Association of Asia-Pacific Physics Societies (AAPPS), the 2016 AP School and Workshop on Gravitation and Cosmology (APCTP-ITP-NCTS-YITP Joint Program) was successfully held at Hunan Normal University, Changsha, China, from June 16 to June 30, 2016. This event was a joint activity with the 7th Summer School of Theoretical Physics Frontiers—Gravitation and Cosmology, and was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The AP school was divided into two parts; the first part consisted of a series of lectures that were held from June 16 to June 26, 2016, while the second part of the event consisted of the annual meeting of the Chinese Society of Gravitation and Relativistic Astrophysics, which was held from June 27 to June 30, 2016. Consequently, most of students and participants of the school attended the annual meeting. The AP school was supported in part by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hunan Normal University, Lanzhou University, Northeast University, and APCTP.

The lectures of the 2016 AP school covered a wide range of topics, such as extra dimension and brane world scenarios, cosmic microwave background radiation, inflation, electrodynamics around astrophysical black holes, exact solutions of Einstein field equations, dark energy, gravitational wave and numerical relativity, holographic description of black holes, D-branes and interaction between them, and holographic applications to condensed matter physics. The 10 lecturers came from China, Japan and Korea. Around 110 students, postdocs and professors took part in the school, and within this group, there were 25 women in attendance.

More than 350 participants attended the second part of the event, the annual meeting of the Chinese Society of Gravitation and Relativistic Astrophysics. In addition to the Chinese speakers, there were invited speakers from Japan, Korea, USA, Greece, Brazil, and Poland.
