Early Days of APCTP

The Editor-in-Chief of AAPPS Bulletin asked me to write about the early days of APCTP. Since I do not keep a diary, there is really very little I can write about.
I do remember the name APCTP was my creation together with Y.M.Cho after a first meeting in 1996 with a very dynamic Minister of Science and Technology in Seoul. I was impressed by his vision and obvious sincerity, and thought we would have a relatively easy time. Unfortunately Korean Ministers in those years lasted only a few months. Thus we had great difficulty in our efforts to create a brand new research center. In fact throughout my tenure as president I never was able to secure a home for APCTP. It was the biggest failure in my long career.
Fortunately I hear APTCP is doing all right these days. With the great economic growth of the countries in the Asia Pacific region we can expect a bright future for APCTP.
